Day 1: Why Write?

Yea! My first post for Writing 101!

Okay, let’s see… I write for so many reasons…

I write to challenge myself, to share my thoughts, to try to remember moments in my life that I hold dear and why, also to say goodbye to things or people in my life that I feel I need to, but the most important reason that I write is because I love to.

As an artist, a musician, I am always in search of inspiration – that lovely muse that will make me better. Better at sharing my talents with people (especially when I don’t want to), better at performing, better at connecting with folks, and just better overall in my life. Because I want live the absolute BEST version of ME that I possibly can.

Since the age of twelve, I have kept a journal. I don’t remember who gave it to me (I think it was a Secret Santa gift from the 5th grade..) but I do remember the way that I felt when I started to write in it. Growing up as an alternative and awkward black chubby girl in the south was NOT how you made friends..So my journal became my BFF back then.

I didn’t realize that it was a positive outlet until much later. To this day I still keep a journal. It is my second favorite creative source – coming in a close second to music.

I may not be the best writer ever, but writing has definitely played a key role in my life. There is no doubt about that and I wouldn’t trade that for anything.

Writing soothes the screaming inside my head.

When I want the world to take note of what I need to have said.

It consoles and ignites me – as only a lover – or a close friend could.

Without it in my life I do not see how it would be this damn good.

  1. Nice job on taking the course and your first post! I considered taking it, but time constraints right now I thought it best not to. I love the fact that you have maintained a journal for so long. And I think it shows in your writing which by the way, is way better than you think. Keep going, never stop moving (my new mantra!).

    1. Thanks! Some how I’ve managed to keep up with it – I have a picture somewhere of all of them (minus the current one). As soon as I find it I’ll post it here. I took the writing 201 first and couldn’t pass up the writing 101 🙂 Love your new mantra!

      1. Thanks on the mantra. It is the title cut to an album by a favorite singers new album (his name is John Jones). Something about it just struck me. I think that is awesome though! I toyed with one at various stages of my life but never maintained it. I’m glad to hear you did and cannot wait to follow your progress
